The Pinot Noir for 'Seven Leagues' is sourced from winemaker Mikey’s three favourite vineyards – 'Bien Nacido', 'Presqu’ile' and 'Solomon Hills' – bringing together three incredible terroir's in a truly outstanding wine. The old vines of 'Bien Nacido' in particular, provide a little more density and firmness, with pure red cherry and raspberry followed by sandalwood and a touch of orange zest. Produced in tiny quantities, this is a remarkable expression of Pinot Noir from a talented, up and coming producer.

About Scar of the Sea

'Mikey Giugni has a way of coaxing so much character from the sites he works with... the wines are done in a style that prizes nuance and understatement.'

- Antonio Galloni

Scar of the Sea was kick-started by Mikey Giugni in 2012, with the focus of celebrating the Santa Maria Valley through Pinot and Chardonnay. The wines are inspired by the influence of the Pacific Ocean and how it affects the climate, the soils, and the geology of these coastal vineyards that fall under the spell of fog each day.

Mikey might not physically own his own vines, but he works closely with like-minded growers that practice organic or biodynamic farming as a minimum. There are some amazing sites in his range, including parcels of fabulous old vines that are very hard to come by in California (thanks to Prohibition). The wines are made with the intention to tell a story of where they come from, the people who farm them, and to reflect each vintage under the California sun. Mikey is a young, dynamic producer that perfectly exemplifies the amazing energy and promise in California today.
