A Pinot that really kicks things up a gear. Essentially Mikey's 'Grand Cru' wine, sourced from a stunning block of own-rooted vines in the Bien Nacido vineyard. Laced with notes of wild, ripe strawberry, soft Mediterranean herbs, and a feather-light touch of rose at the finish. And oh what a finish, the kind of wine that lingers long after the last drop has gone.

This is truly the jewel in the Scar of the Sea crown and damn it shines. As Antonio Galloni perfectly states, it is 'both incredibly delicious and distinctive'. Tiny production, maximum flavour - a special bottle that really delivers.

The 2018 Pinot Noir Bien Nacido Vineyard Block Q is positively gorgeous. Rose petal, mint, dried herbs and crushed red berry fruit all grace this beguiling Pinot. The 2018 is light on its feet, with tremendous aromatic presence and a good bit of whole cluster savoriness as well. More importantly, it is both incredibly delicious and distinctive. This site, planted in 1973 with Pommard and Martini clones, yields a wine of tremendous breeding.

About Scar of the Sea

'Mikey Giugni has a way of coaxing so much character from the sites he works with... the wines are done in a style that prizes nuance and understatement.'

- Antonio Galloni

Scar of the Sea was kick-started by Mikey Giugni in 2012, with the focus of celebrating the Santa Maria Valley through Pinot and Chardonnay. The wines are inspired by the influence of the Pacific Ocean and how it affects the climate, the soils, and the geology of these coastal vineyards that fall under the spell of fog each day.

Mikey might not physically own his own vines, but he works closely with like-minded growers that practice organic or biodynamic farming as a minimum. There are some amazing sites in his range, including parcels of fabulous old vines that are very hard to come by in California (thanks to Prohibition). The wines are made with the intention to tell a story of where they come from, the people who farm them, and to reflect each vintage under the California sun. Mikey is a young, dynamic producer that perfectly exemplifies the amazing energy and promise in California today.
